Triton 3D FAQs

In a word - NO.  This is big misunderstanding in the 3D printer world - the OEM will void my warranty if I use a 3rd party material.  False.  There is actually caselaw and federal statutes (both in the US and Canada) that prevent the manufacturer from invalidating the warranty.

THE USE OF NON-STRATASYS SUPPLIES DOES NOT VOID YOUR 3D PRINTER’S WARRANTY:

Federal law guarantees that you are free to use the supplies of your choice for your 3D printer without having to worry about voiding the warranty for the 3D printer.

The MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 1975 (15 USC 2301) prohibits a 3D printer manufacturer from conditioning the 3D printer’s warranty on the use of a particular brand of supplies. The applicable provision of the Act states: “No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than [an]article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name”.

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act restricts Stratasys (and all printer OEMs)  from requiring us to use their branded materials.  The Act clearly states: "A Warrantor cannot require that only Branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty. It is illegal for a company to refuse warranty work due to the use of third party products."  Bottom line - they cannot force you to use their filament and they know it.  Their only option is to keep changing the chip to stay one step ahead of 3rd party supplies.   Furthermore, under the Act, the only way Stratasys can require you to use their branded filament is if they provide it for free under the terms of the warranty. Obviously, they are not going to give you the filament for free, so they lock up the machine with EEPROM chips.

We have purchased Fortus® and Dimension® printers for our in-house evaluation of materials. Please see our compatibility chart on our installation page.

We have also partnered with several large companies who have Stratasys® printers and they have beta tested all of our formulations. We started evaluating materials in late 2015 and launched our first grades June 2017 - so we have a lot of time and effort into assuring these filaments work in your printer. Plus - we have a 100% money back guarantee that should help assure you that we stand behind our products.

YES.  We purchase our Ultem™ resin from the same company that Stratasys® does - Sabic Innovative Plastics (Sabic).  Sabic's trade name for Polyetherimide (PEI) is Ultem™.  Ultem™ 9085 and Ultem™ 1010 are grades of PEI from Sabic, Stratasys® did not create them.

  • We buy our Ultem™ 9085 and 1010 resin from Sabic and extrude it into filament.
  • Stratasys® buys the exact same Ultem™ resins from Sabic and extrudes them into filament.

The only difference is that Triton charges you less for the exact same product.  Please contact us at info@triton3d.com if you have any questions about this.

Please see our installation guide to learn more. It is very simple and will save you money when you refill your Fortus® or Dimension® with our filaments.

Stratasys® created the Plus chip to prevent you from using 3rd party materials.  They understood that the only way they can prevent you from doing this is to create a new chip that is more difficult to hack.  Their Plus chip uses a different EEPROM and coding and will effectively lock you into using their expensive materials.  We have both Classic and Plus materials - so we have you covered either way!

We stand behind our filaments with a 100% guaranteed return policy.  If you are not completely satisfied with your materials,  return the materials and EEPROM to us in the original packaging within 21 days of receipt.  We will issue you a full refund (excluding original delivery charge) within 30 days after we receive the product back.

We accept PO's from companies inside the USA.  Please send us your PO to info@triton3d.com and we will contact you.
